As part of Beckfoot Teaching School collaborative working, Hazelbeck School hosted ITTs from Bradford Birth to 19 SCITT.
Trainees were given a brief induction to Hazelbeck School and then assigned to a base, where they spent the day. They worked with our Supported and Independent Learners. They were included in the lunchtime clubs, which enabled the trainees to work with students from across the whole school, including our Sensory Learners.
Lessons included Enterprise, English, Maths, Cooking, Careers & Transition and Life Skills. Some of the trainees saw the culmination of Hazelbeck Arts week, with art work from all bases displayed in the hall.
Feedback at the end of the day suggested that they had particularly enjoyed experiencing the very different curriculum at Hazelbeck, with its flexibility and opportunities for personalisation.
Trainees talked about having seen teaching and learning strategies that they could adapt back to their own settings. Hazelbeck teaching staff were impressed with the trainees and how they engaged with the opportunity to understand more about our secondary special school environment.
We appreciate the opportunity to work with Bradford Birth to 19 trainees to show them some of what teaching at the Beckfoot Trust can offer. You can read more about Train to Teach opportunities with our Trust by clicking here.
Thank you to all involved at Bradford Birth to 19 and Hazelbeck School.
