Our Hazelbeck A Team provides opportunities for students to learn team work, negotiation, communication skills, fundraising and project management. Students can learn, through experience, about their responsibilities to create the community they want to be part of and have some understanding of democracy. They also have opportunities to resolve problems and raise personal concerns and are responsible for collecting the views of other students across school.
Spring 2016 update Before the Easter holidays the A Team held an Easter activity day for the whole school. All the members of the A Team met to discuss and plan the day themselves and came up with the following ideas: an Easter egg hunt, raffle, egg and spoon races and an Easter cake sale. The day was a huge success and our students thoroughly enjoyed all the activities provided. The A Team raised a fantastic total of £101 from the cake sale and raffle. The money raised will be spent on a range of equipment for the school which the A Team have suggested including: outdoor music, mirrors and colourful flowers for the playground and sensory garden equipment.
Autumn 2015 update This year we have decided to do things a little differently - due to the number of applications we received to join the A Team we decided to form two groups. We have the Seniors which consist of Sixth Form students and the Juniors from Key Stages 3 & 4. The students went through an application and interview process and presented their views during the assemblies on why they thought they would make good student leaders. The whole school then held a democratic vote for their leaders. The A Team students are all very excited to be having their first meeting in the next few weeks. When they meet, they will lead the meetings about how they can improve the school; there will also be opportunities for non-leader pupils to assist where necessary.
