Message from the Head

Welcome to our website. I hope that it provides you with all the information you need about Hazelbeck school along with a sense of its ethos and culture.

Hazelbeck is a school for students with special educational needs aged 11 - 19, and is part of the Beckfoot Trust. Our relationship with Beckfoot is very important to us; the opportunities provided by being co-located with a mainstream secondary school are many and have contributed to our success.

At Hazelbeck we put our learners at the heart of everything we do. This is seen in our school motto which is ‘Enjoy - Learn - Succeed’. We want every student to enjoy learning, to make progress and to understand what success feels like.

We know that every student is unique so we adopt a personalised learning approach, with an emphasis on practical activities and ‘real life’ experiences. Student Leadership is also fundamental to the ethos of the school, with learners from all age groups taking on leadership roles that will help them to grow in confidence.

The key drivers for our curriculum are:
·       Communication
·       Independence
·       Meaningful skills
·       Preparation for the next stages in life.

To help our young people access learning we have an outstanding staff team who are totally committed to the vision and values of the school. Great teaching and learning are central to everything that we do. We work closely and collaboratively with families and other professionals in order to create the very best opportunities for our students.

In February 2015 Ofsted graded us as an ‘Outstanding’ school in every category. We are determined to continue to develop so that we become a truly great school. We are very proud of what happens in Hazelbeck and love watching our students as they gain in confidence and maturity during their school lives.
