Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Beckfoot Hazelbeck School, our vision is to create a connected community that empowers students to overcome barriers and flourish in their future lives, ensuring that no child is left behind. We are a generic secondary special school; our students have a wide range of needs, including Autism, Learning Difficulties and Disabilities, Speech Language and Communication needs, and Physical and Medical needs. All students are supported to be included in all areas of school life and to play an active role in school life. Interventions are put in place, where needed, to support individuals to achieve.

All students have an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP), reviewed annually. Aspirational targets are set for all students, and progress and attainment is assessed three times a year at the end of every cycle. Every achievement is recognised and celebrated. From Year 8, students work on Preparing for Adulthood outcomes that aim to teach independence and prepare students for life after school. We work in a cooperative and productive partnership with the Local Authority and other outside agencies to ensure there is a multi-professional approach to meeting the needs of our students. For further information, please contact our school SENCO Jo Dowson, at [email protected].

Our Local Offer

Please refer to our Local Offer document to find our more about how we meet the needs of children with SEND in our school

Accessibility

Beckfoot Hazelbeck takes account of its responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and the SEND Code of Practice 2014. We do not treat disabled pupils less favourably than others, and we will always take reasonable steps to avoid putting disabled pupils at a substantial disadvantage. There is an Accessibility Plan to increase the ability of the school to cater for the needs of the disabled pupils.

Parents/carers are invited to inform school of any disability that could prevent or impair their child’s full participation in school life. If we are made aware of any problems, we always try to make alternative arrangements to overcome any difficulties.
