Art Accreditation

Purple Base students have been exploring light and dark as part of our sensory curriculum. This year our students are working towards an art award for the cognitive work they do in these sensory areas. As an introduction to this award we visited the gallery at Salts Mill last week. This involved accessing the local arts community, enjoying travel to the museum, exploring arty spaces (looking at vaulted roofs, light and shade etc.) noticing colour, including the colour used in David Hockney’s “The Arrival of Spring”, and socialising in the Salts Diner café.  Later this year we plan to get hands-on at the Eureka National Children's Museum in Halifax and will explore the sculptures at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Bradford and Yorkshire have been home and inspiration to leading artists such as David Hockney and Antony Gormley and we plan to make the most of the opportunities that artists such as these offer us.
