Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

Happy Hazelfest!

This half term, Orange, Red, Yellow and Sky Blue Bases will be learning about Festivals and Celebrations as part of their wider topic of Communities.

We will be looking at many of the different festivals that occur at this time of year - such as Diwali, Bonfire Night, Guru Nanak and Christmas.

To launch the topic, we had our own Festival, called 'Hazelfest'. The students helped to plan and prepare for the event by making decorations and choosing food from different countries to purchase. The afternoon was a huge success, with students taking part in lots of different activities, socialising with others in their local community and proclaiming 'Happy Hazelfest!' to one another. We even had a celebrity appearance in the form of Bradford City captain, Romain Vincelot, who came to visit students from Orange and Red base to conclude the book we looked at last half term called 'A League Of Dreams' (a book based on Bradford City FC, a leisure facility in our local community).

We're certain that as we work through the topic of Festivals and Celebrations, the students will be able to remember their own festival with fond memories. In the words of one student: "We had a party because is a special day of a new topic of a community. Hazelfest is a celebration because we are a community."
