Red 1
What an amazing year it has been in Red 1! We have loved watching every student grow in confidence, build wonderful friendships, and work incredibly hard towards their individual targets. We are so proud of everything they have achieved.
To celebrate a fantastic year, we enjoyed a lovely class party where we reflected on our successes and shared lots of fun together.
Highlights of the year included:
• Taking part in the school show
• Enjoying a fantastic Sports Day and accessing ‘Week in the woods’
• Achieving new personal targets
• Making new friends and strengthening our class community
• Growing in confidence and independence every day.
To all of our students moving on to new classes, we wish you every success. We know you will continue to flourish, and we can’t wait to see all that you achieve next.

Red 2
This term, the students in Red 2 have been working hard to develop their communication and socialisation skills. We are incredibly proud of the progress they have made and the confidence they have shown when interacting with their peers, staff, and the wider community.
A particular highlight of the term has been our weekly visits to Myrtle Park in Bingley. These trips have provided wonderful opportunities for students to explore their environment, practice communication in real-life situations, and enjoy shared experiences with friends. We have seen students becoming more engaged, responsive, and confident during these outings, making each visit a special success.
The students have made great progress throughout the term, and it has been fantastic to celebrate their achievements, no matter how big or small. Their enthusiasm, determination, and growing independence have been a joy to see.
Well done to all of the students in Red 2 – we are very proud of you and look forward to seeing what you achieve next term!
Red 3
Well we can’t believe we’ve reached the end of another school year and what a year it has been for Red 3.
It’s been wonderful watching our students grow in confidence and make so many amazing memories with staff and their peers.
As a class we loved joining in with Week in the Woods, everyone really enjoyed going on the bus and exploring the woods, listening to different sounds and feeling different textures you may find in the woods.
More recently our students have loved taking part in sports day, rolling balls, throwing bean bags, and our wheelchair races.
Its been a lovely fun filled year and we can’t wait to see everyone after summer.
We will be saying goodbye to two of our students who will be leaving Hazelbeck, we wish them both good luck for the future.
Orange 1
As we come to the end of another fantastic school year, I would like to say a huge well done to all of the students in Orange 1. They have worked incredibly hard and achieved so much throughout the year. We are very proud of the progress they have made, their enthusiasm for learning, and the positive relationships they have built with staff and their peers. Our summer term highlights included having lots of fun exploring water play. They enjoyed splashing, making bubbles, pouring water, and engaging in a variety of sensory activities. It has been wonderful to see their confidence, curiosity, and enjoyment grow through these experiences.
In Maths, we have continued to develop our number sense by exploring quantities, counting, and matching amounts to numbers. The children have also worked on recognising different representations of numbers and have shown great progress in their understanding.
Our class story, “This Is Me”, helped us to develop our understanding of how people can be the same and different. We used Mr Potato Head activities to consolidate learning about body parts, individuality, and what makes us unique.
In PE, the children have worked hard to develop their balance, running, and coordination skills. They have shown great determination and enthusiasm while taking part in a range of physical activities.
Thank you to all of our families for your continued support throughout the year. Your encouragement and partnership have helped our students achieve so much.
We hope you all have a wonderful, restful, and safe summer holiday. We look forward to hearing about all of your adventures when we return.

Yellow 2
What a busy and enjoyable final half term it has been in Yellow 2 Base!
It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of another school year. Summer 2 has been full of learning, practical activities, special events and opportunities for the students to enjoy spending time together as a class.
In English, we have continued to develop our communication, reading and writing skills through a range of accessible and engaging activities. Our learning has included exploring stories, talking about characters and events, answering who, what and where questions, sequencing pictures and creating short sentences and phrases. We have also enjoyed activities based around ourselves, our interests and what makes each of us unique, including beginning our very own Yellow 2 Times class magazine!
In Maths, students have continued to work on individual and group activities at an appropriate level. Our learning has included:
• counting, matching and recognising numbers;
• practical work with numbers up to 5, 10 and 20;
• repeating patterns and sequences;
• addition and subtraction;
• using practical resources, pictures and number lines to solve problems.
The students have worked hard and particularly enjoy maths when they can learn through practical resources, games and interactive activities.
Our cooking and life skills sessions have continued to be a highlight of the week. Students have developed their independence, communication and ability to follow instructions while preparing a range of simple foods. We have enjoyed making pasta pots, fruit kebabs and chocolate Rice Krispie buns. These sessions provide fantastic opportunities to practice turn-taking, making choices, trying new experiences and, of course, tasting what we have made!
We have also continued to enjoy a wide range of creative and sensory activities. Our music sessions have included body percussion, where students have developed their ability to watch, listen, copy actions and join in together. Art, sensory play and practical activities have given everyone opportunities to explore, create and express themselves in their own way.
Swimming has remained a firm favourite for many of our students. We are incredibly proud of the confidence, enjoyment and growing independence they continue to show in and around the water.
This half term has also included some lovely opportunities to celebrate together. We have enjoyed birthdays, class celebrations and special moments with friends and staff. It has been wonderful to see the relationships within Yellow 2 continue to develop and to watch students become increasingly confident in expressing their personalities, interests and choices.
As we reach the end of the school year, we would like to say how incredibly proud we are of every student in Yellow 2 Base. Each student has made progress in their own individual way, and it has been a privilege to share their achievements, challenges, laughter and many memorable moments throughout the year.
For those students moving on to new classes and the next stage of their school journey, we wish you every success and will miss having you as part of Yellow 2. For those returning in September, we look forward to welcoming you back for another exciting year.
Finally, we would like to thank all of our families and carers for your continued support throughout the year. We hope everyone has a wonderful, relaxing and well-deserved summer holiday!
Yellow 3
As we reach the end of a wonderful year in Yellow 3, I would like to say a huge thank you for your continued support. It has been a pleasure to teach such a fantastic group of students and watch them grow in confidence, independence and resilience. Throughout the year, they have worked incredibly hard across all areas of the curriculum, enjoyed our weekly cooking sessions, community visits and creative activities, and should be very proud of everything they have achieved.
In maths, we have been working hard on addition, multiplication and fractions, building both understanding and confidence. In English, we have used colourful semantics to strengthen our writing and sentence-building, helping the children express their ideas more clearly. We were also incredibly proud to see every child take part in Sports Day this half term, showing great enthusiasm, teamwork and determination throughout the event.
Every student has made progress in their own unique way, and it has been a privilege to celebrate so many successes with them. Thank you for working in partnership with us to support your child’s learning. We wish you all a safe, happy and relaxing summer holiday.
The Valleys
In cooking this half term we created cool smoothies trying out different combinations of fruits and choosing between apple and orange juice. Our cutting skills have improved and we enjoyed using the blender.
In community access we went out the Hirst Lane Recreation Ground and some of us used the outdoor gym there.
In English, we enjoyed finding out more about George Webster who wrote ‘This is Me’ and is an announcer on CBBC. His book inspired us to think about what we enjoyed doing, our friends and what we are good at.
In Maths we continue to problem solve around capacity and numbers and shapes.
We enjoyed visiting Riverside Café, hosted by Rivers class.
We are sad to say good bye to Muneeba, Muniba, Saffanah and Austin but we wish them luck in their exciting future activities.
The Rivers
We’ve had another fantastic half term in Rivers Base, with students continuing to develop their confidence, independence and teamwork through a wide variety of learning opportunities both in school and out in the community.
In Maths, students have been developing their understanding of shape, position and direction through practical activities and games. They have enjoyed applying positional language in a range of problem-solving tasks and have continued to build their confidence with number and mathematical vocabulary.
In English, students have continued to develop their reading, writing and communication skills through engaging activities, including phonics, descriptive writing and comprehension work. They have worked hard to improve their confidence when expressing their ideas both verbally and in writing.
On Tuesday afternoons, many of our students have continued taking part in Duke of Edinburgh activities, developing their teamwork, resilience and independence through practical challenges. We were incredibly proud of those who completed their Duke of Edinburgh expedition, demonstrating excellent determination and representing the school brilliantly.
On Wednesday mornings, students have continued participating in Preparation for Adulthood groups. They have worked alongside different staff and peers in a variety of settings, including supporting the local community by helping at Prince of Wales Park, Bingley Little Theatre and a local charity shop. These experiences have helped students build valuable independence, communication and employability skills.
In Art, students have explored the work of a variety of inspiring artists including Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Frida Kahlo and Allison Lapper MBE. They have used both traditional art materials and iPads to create self-portraits and other creative pieces, learning how artists express themselves in different ways.
During PSHE, students have explored important topics including online safety, social media, respectful relationships and recognising the benefits and risks of using technology. They enjoyed sharing their ideas during class discussions and developed their understanding of how to stay safe online.
Cooking has continued to be a favourite part of the week. Students have followed recipes to prepare fish finger wraps while developing their independence, food preparation skills and ability to follow instructions safely in the kitchen.
Enterprise has continued to flourish through our class café. Students have planned the menu, shopped for ingredients, welcomed visitors, served food and drinks, handled money and worked together as a team. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow while practising important real-life skills.
Our Community Access sessions have provided many exciting opportunities this half term. Students have enjoyed visits to the zoo, Harlow Carr Gardens and ASDA, where they practised travelling safely, ordering food, shopping independently and making choices in the community. They represented Rivers Base exceptionally well and should be very proud of themselves.
Students also enjoyed taking part in Sports Day, where students joined in with a range of activities including javelin, shot put, football and running races. It was great to see everyone encouraging one another, showing great sportsmanship and finishing the day with a well-earned ice cream.
Towards the end of the half term, students celebrated at the Sixth Form Prom. It was lovely to see everyone dressed up, dancing with friends and celebrating another successful year together.
It has been another busy and rewarding half term, and we are incredibly proud of everything our students have achieved. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. We wish our leavers the very best of luck for their next phase. We hope everyone has a wonderful summer break.
The Meadows
The final half term has been particularly action packed. It started with our final Try the Train trip to York. We challenged everyone when we walked along the wall. Talking about walking half of the class did lots of walking on their second Duke of Edinburgh expedition. As soon as they were back we were off to Blackpool Zoo. We have used these experiences to practice writing in the past tense. We have also used them to practice our number skills in real world situations.
We have also been being very creative making materials for the prom, the performance and now our World Cup shop.
Sixth Form
We have had a lovely last term and especially enjoyed all the excitement around our leavers getting ready for the next steps. We went to Harlow Carr near Harrogate for a day out and found shade. We enjoyed the beautiful woodland areas and gardens. We loved planning for our Super Hero Prom and had great fun at the disco led by the Party People Project. We were proud of our leavers at the Leavers’ assembly. Thank you to all the parents who have supported their students over the years and we wish everyone the best of luck in their future endeavours.
