Space Week Takes Learning Out of This World!
Students across the school have enjoyed an exciting Space Week, taking part in a range of creative, sensory and educational activities linked to planets, astronauts, space exploration and our place in the universe.
Throughout the week, students explored the wonders of space through a variety of hands-on learning experiences. They learned about the planets in our solar system, gravity, the Earth, Sun and Moon, and the achievements of famous astronauts such as Neil Armstrong. Students investigated our own planet using globes, watched space-themed videos and followed exciting journeys into space through stories and familiar characters.
Creativity played a key role in the week’s learning, with students producing a range of space-themed artwork, including spiral galaxies created with chalks, planet drawings using oil pastels, Earth and Sun suncatchers, space helmets and imaginative alien designs. Students also demonstrated their creativity and environmental awareness by using recycled materials to design and build their own alien spaceship.

Sensory exploration was an important part of the week, with students investigating natural materials found on Earth, exploring the appearance of the Sun through light and colour, and experiencing calming sensory sessions featuring planets and galaxies alongside relaxing music.
Across the school, students developed their literacy skills through space-themed reading activities and learned about life in space by considering what they would need to take on a journey beyond Earth and how astronauts live and work in challenging environments. They also enjoyed researching facts about the planets, labelling them and learning songs to help remember their names and order from the Sun.
Space Week also inspired movement and music. We listened to Holst’s Planet Suite, took part in space-themed music sessions and body percussion activities, enjoyed space yoga and dance, and even practised moving like astronauts with their own slow-motion space walks.
The week provided wonderful opportunities for our students to learn, create, explore and imagine. From discovering fascinating facts about our universe to expressing their learning through art, music, sensory experiences and model-making, they thoroughly enjoyed a week of learning that was truly out of this world!
