Arts Week 2023
Our annual Arts Week took place in January, the theme for Arts Week 2023 was ‘Colour & Sound’. Every class within school accessed a range of activities which explored the theme in great detail, the variety of different activities is a true reflection of how individually diverse our students are and it also highlighted the skills all our staff members possess in order to reach each and every single student here at Hazelbeck. The week was launched with a fantastic performance from Beckfoot Sixth Form students led by Mark Lewalski, a dynamic and talented drumming teacher. Students across Hazelbeck learned about how sound can be created using instruments and by using specific sound resources. Similarly, colour was explore in a variety of ways - mixing coloured paints to create marbling ink pictures and using UV Neon Paints to design T- shirts which looked fantastic when exposed to special lights. Students also engaged in activities which were linked to their Arts Award Explore, Amber base students engaged in exploring Jackson Pollock and splattered different colored paints on a huge sheet. There were Pakistani Colourful Trucks which were amazing and we had coloured pasta and different shades of coloured smoothies. The Plummer Drummer performed using his highly colourful drumming tube kit and we had an amazing DJ who filled our hall with fantastic music, light and enabled some of our more sensory students to take part and have a fantastic time. The Arts Week culminated in our Pop-up Arts exhibition, which just was so beautiful to see. Students were also able to make props for Bingley Little Theatre and these props will be seen on the set of an upcoming show which we look forward to seeing.
A huge thank you to all our fantastic young people who dive right in and make the Arts week so enjoyable to organize and a massive thank you to all our hardworking and creative staff who have a ‘Can Do' attitude and who always look beyond any challenge. Well done everyone!
