Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

Arts Week 2025

The theme for our Arts Week this year was Patterns & Rhythm. The activities that were organised by each class were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in school. As usual the staff teams within each class did some ‘Out of the box’ thinking and prepared the most engaging activities to support students to access the theme within their own individual learning style.

On Monday students from across school came together in ability groups to practice making some rhythmical music supported by Martin Henderson (Samba band tutor), who has visited Hazelbeck in the past and who was able to capture the students’ musical flair by teaching them to match words to beat using the Samba drums. The students from all groups were thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to make such loud sounds by banging on the drums.

On Tuesday we were visited by ‘The Plumber Drummer’ who has also visited us in the past and is a favourite artist who the students look forward to having in school.

For the first time we had the pleasure to welcome ‘Bring me Sunshine’ a trio who played string and percussion instruments and who sang melodic songs which the students could participate in by using a ‘Call & Response’ type technique. The band tailored their performance in three different ways which supported all students to find something they could understand and engage in which was wonderful to watch.

In classes the students created patterns with paint, they also used patterns in their Maths sessions and worked on specific artists who have used patterns as a medium depending on the kind of message they want to convey. There were clay tiles that had been designed on card initially and then transferred to clay and painted with specific patterns, the Islamic tiles were also beautifully displayed. There were paintings created by the sensory students and other students in the 6th form area. The whole event was wonderfully closed by our Pop-up Exhibition. Everything that was created had a reason, meaning and had been thought out with student’s choices and needs at the very heart.

Thank you to our exceptionally skilled staff who know and support the students so well.
