Black History Month
October was Black History Month, as part of this we had a 2-week topic at Hazelbeck, where all classes acknowledged and recognized the great work and achievements of Black people around the world. Students engaged in learning activities such as exploring African artists and recreating their own art work, engaging with music and instruments from Black cultures, tasting foods from Africa and the Caribbean and reading stories and watching programmes that centre around Black leading roles. Some students focused their learning on significant figures from Black communities from the past and present such as Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr, Marcus Rashford and Beyoncé.
All classes then presented their work in our Black History Exhibition that was held in school, students visited the showcase to look at their own and the work of others around school. We are proud of all of the students who engaged in some excellent learning and produced some fantastic work to recognise the achievements of Black people around the world.
