Intensive Interaction
This week is Intensive Interaction week, so at Hazelbeck we have decided to celebrate with various events throughout the week! We will be celebrating our Intensive Interaction practice with staff throughout the week and giving more information as well as sharing examples of our practice with parents as part of our Parents' Coffee Morning.
Intensive Interaction is a communication technique for people with special educational needs. It was developed by a team of practitioners in the 1980s as a way to ‘enter’ the worlds of learners who find it difficult to communicate and interact with others and is used widely in SEN settings.
It is an exciting person-centred approach to social interaction and involves a mixture of blended repetitions and positive imitations of the learners’ behaviours and vocalisations.
At Hazelbeck, we have been promoting it across all our classes and we have seen a wonderful improvement in many of our learners’ ability to ‘chat’ with their peers and our staff.
