KWVR Steam Train
Every week, our Orange Base Enterprise Group make and sell produce to the staff in Hazelbeck and Beckfoot. They set the 'Rainbow Shop' stall up in the staff room, where they sell a range of food including pizza, quiche and fruit crumble. The food always sells well. For anyone who doesn't have cash on them, IOUs are given out and the students always make sure the debts are collected.
The students have previously used their hard earned money to buy a range of items to enhance their swimming sessions, including a giant inflatable football and goal posts, a number of pairs of goggles and some water pistols. They chose to spend the money they raised this time on a trip to Haworth via the KWVR Steam Train. The idea for this came from the topic they have been engaged with this term, which is 'Machines'.
Incidentally, the students have also been studying the work of LS Lowry this term and are aware that he painted a number of cityscapes including mills. The KWVR Steam Train was originally built to ferry materials between mills.
The sun was shining and everyone had a great day. We had a picnic in Haworth Central Park followed by playing in the park and taking part in some playground games. After that, we got the train back down the hill to Keighley.
