Grand Opening Ceremony
Last week marked a historic venture at Hazelbeck, with the official opening of the 'Lilac Local', Hazelbeck's very own local shop. Lilac Base students assisted by Jonathan Waterworth and his team of staff were joined by students and staff from around the school to celebrate the official opening, which had all the ingredients of such a prestigious event; Beth cut the ribbon, students served canapés and sparkling drinks and guests were entertained with music and dancing. There was even a celebrity, as Tallulah Twinkle graced the event with her presence. The official opening was documented by the "Press" (Sky Blue students) who interviewed students and staff, took pictures and even made Vlogs (view below).
By running the shop, students in Lilac Base are gaining authentic work experience, with a range of jobs to keep them busy, including taking orders, purchasing stock, filling shelves, operating the till and, as one would expect from the Lilac Local, giving excellent customer service!
Aside from learning about the world of work, the students are also learning about the value and use of money and are supporting other students who can't normally visit the local community by providing the opportunity to visit a lifelike shop.
This is a fantastic venture and the shop is already proving very popular with both students and staff alike.
