Re-Planting Betty's Wood
When Betty's Wood at St Ives was hit with disease in 2017 most of the trees had to be felled, which was upsetting for many of our students, as they had spent time taking part in forest school sessions there.
Bradford Council's Trees and Woodlands Section, working in partnership with the charity Trees for Cities, advertised for people to help replace the trees.
Sky Blue Base volunteered, along with many other local volunteers. Despite it being very cold and the ground was frozen, all of our students were very determined and worked very hard. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to be a part of returning this former plantation site to a diverse woodland, comprising many locally known tree species and it will also be a great recreational facility for people and a haven for wildlife.
